Oprah finally heard the cries of her fans–she finally put up a careers website for Harpo, Inc., her mega-media firm. For those of you who’ve never attempted to hunt down a job opening with the firm, you may not appreciate how big this is. But, if you’re one of the thousands who has searched mediabistro, LinkedIn or Craigslist for blindbox listings that might be Harpo, then you know this is HUGE!
My guess is that the careers site is part of a larger plan to make optimal use of the web as a way of expanding her online community of fans. If you’re a fan, you know that many of them have written to ask how they might apply for a job with her company. Well, the answer is finally public. Apply online!
There are some pretty good jobs available now in all parts of the organization–from Development Director in the Angel’s Network to Producer for the Oprah Show. Most of the jobs are producer jobs (field, show, associate).
