NewSchools Venture Fund, a national nonprofit venture philanthropy firm that raises capital from both individual and institutional investors to support promising education entrepreneurs, help them grow their organizations to scale, and connect their work with public school systems within targeted urban areas, is accepting business plan submissions.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Nonprofit and for-profit ventures.
- Ventures must:
- Present an opportunity to produce significant, measurable outcomes for K-12 public education in the United States
- Be scalable (able to expand its reach over time),
- Have the potential to impact thousands, hundreds of thousands, or millions of students
- Be sustainable (self-perpetuating and lasting) as demonstrated through a sound revenue model and/or clear and credible funding plans
- Be led by passionate entrepreneurs who have expertise in education and business management and the wherewithal to execute the venture’s vision
- Clearly benefit from NewSchools’ participation
- Fit with NewSchool’s current investment strategy
Submission Guidelines:
- Business plans are accepted year-round
- Business plans must include three components:
- Executive summary (5-10 pages) that includes—but need not be limited to—the following information:
- Mission/vision
- Description of the product or service to be provided
- Description of the market/population to be served
- Strategy for accomplishing mission
- Description of the management team and their backgrounds
- Financial information, which should include, at minimum:
- Demonstration of a sound, credible, and sustainable revenue model and/or credible, sustainable funding plan (including detailed historical financials, if any, plus a 3-5 year financial projection).
- Documentation of corporate status (for-profit or nonprofit)
- Estimate of the amount of capital needed
- Explanation of what the funds will be used to accomplish
- Contact information, which should include:
- Primary contact name
- Email address
- Telephone number
- Fax number
- Mailing address
Expect to a response within eight weeks.
