Since you gotta work…

Morning at the 54th Annual Cannes Lions 2007 International Advertising Festival

Posted on | June 19, 2007 | No Comments

Bonjour! Bienvenue a Cannes Lions 2007 Festival a Cannes, France. I’m feeling a bit less snarky today so I can give you a few more details on the festival. First, it’s an annual event (in its 54th year) to celebrate the best of the best in advertising across all media–from traditional television ads to online/digital ads to radio ads. Gold, silver and bronze lions will be awarded to the year’s best advertiser (Adidas won last year) and the best advertising agencies in the each of the following categories: Direct, Radio, Promo (Offer or sales of product/service), Outdoor (Billboard, poster and ambient advertising, Press (Magazine, newspaper and inserts), Media (Use of media, its application and relevance to target audience), Cyber (Website and online ads), Young Creative (Print, Cyber, and Film), Titanium and Integrated (“Breakthrough ideas that stop the industry in its tracks”), Film (TV and cinema advertising), and Agency of the Year (Media, Direct, and Interactive), Media Person of the Year (media industry ally who supports industry), Network of the Year and Palme d’Or (best production company).

Category winners and those on the short list for the other categories are announced daily. Yesterday’s winners of the Direct Agency of the Year category were SHACKLETON (Madrid), NORDPOL+ (Hamburg) and TBWA\GERMANY (Berlin). Check out the other winners in the direct and promo categories.

Despite the requisite cheese factor associated with most every award ceremony and business conference, the Cannes Lions international advertising festival is actually the big-time for advertising and marketing types, second only perhaps to the Clios (in terms of prestige). If you are interested in a career in advertising, you’ll want your work to end up here. The awards are awarded by peer juries, but they nonetheless have great cache and drive demand for your services.

More to come!
