Day 2 of the Podcast & New Media Expo

I’m back.  First comment is that I hate the fact that the wi-fi sucks–at a podcast conference of all things.  Anyway, I have to hurry before the network goes down, or my battery runs out, either could happen within the next few minutes.

So, let’s get to it.  Today’s seminar’s have been kind of hit and miss.  I really enjoyed my first session with Susan Bratton, founder/CEO of blog network Personal Life Media.  She gave us a quick, but detailed download on what it takes to get advertisers to pay for ads within your podcast.  Basically, warm-calling, plenty of value-adds, you manage the relationship, everything is negotiable.

My next session was boring.  It was billed as some bit about corporate blogging, and it was about that.  I guess I misjudged the usefulness to my own cause.  I learned a bit about Microsoft’s internal podcasting initiative and department, and heard the Zune mentioned more times in one hour than it ever will (unless we’re discussing also-died’s).  Boring.

Next stop was a pretty cool one at Podango Theatre.  It was “17 podcasts in 17 minutes”.  It was really cool, if not a bit technical.  The guy (David Lawrence) was great.  He took his pants off to podcast and then put them on when he was done.  Then, he talked to us.  Great.

Now, I’m in a session with the guy who wrote a book on making money with podcasting.  He is a cute young guy giving an earnest presentation on using social media, creating permalinks and establishing your own network.  It’s kind of re-tread of things I already know, but I think, given the level of many of the podcasters, and the fact that everyone is here to learn how to make money podcasting, it’s relevant.
