Get Movin’ On Your Dream Career. The one video you must see.

I watched Oprah today and was touched by the words of Professor Randy Pausch, a computer science professor at Carnegie Melon University who is dying of pancreatic cancer. Professor Pausch was so upbeat and amazingly contented in the way that he spoke about his life and his impending death. He is spending his “limited time” enjoying his life with his neighbors and family.
I’m deeply afraid of dying, especially early. So, this was a very hard episode for me. But, Professor Pausch’s impassioned speech on “Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” seemed really relevant to our discussions on finding our dream careers, or at least careers that don’t suck. He talked about his dream of being an Imagineer, a dream that came true 15 years and a few rejection letters later than he planned. He talked about doing what we want to do now–not because we’re dying, but because we’re living and we can. He talked about obstacles being there for a reason, about experience being what we get when we don’t get what we want.
The video, actually meant for his 3 children, is an amazing wake up call for all of us mired in our deliberations, self-pity and procrastination.
