Career Questions: Is Now the Time to Start A New Career?

The market is tough, but not completely abysmal. Many people are being laid off, but many people–namely, those with specialized skills and experience (professionals, techies, and human resources managers among them)–are finding new opportunities in the most unlikely places. Businesses are slowing their hiring, but increasing compensation for newly-hired executives. Credit is being rationed, but folks with good credit ratings are still being approved for business loans. Banks may not lend you money for your great new business idea, but venture capitalists and angel investors are pretty active.
So, what to do?
Is this the right time to strike out on your new career adventure?
