Fortune magazine recently released its annual Most Admired Companies list. This year’s list featured few, if any, surprises. All of the biggies are there.
AMERICA’S TOP 20 MOST ADMIRED COMPANIES

- Berkshire Hathaway
- General Electric
- Toyota Motor
- Starbucks
- FedEx
- Procter & Gamble
- Johnson & Johnson
- Goldman Sachs
- Target
- Southwest Airlines
- American Express
- BMW (tied with CostCo)
- CostCo (tied with BMW)
- Microsoft
- UPS
- Cisco Systems
- 3M
- Nordstrom
The World’s Top 20 didn’t feature any surprises either–twelve of the U.S. Top 20 made it. Curiously, Google, Fortune’s Best Company to Work For and #4 on the Most Admired list, doesn’t really translate across borders. It didn’t make the World’s Top 20. But, Google aside, American companies still dominate the list (a severe understatement). Too bad the American dollar is not so venerable.
I love these lists, but, unless there’s an opportunity to work for or with these celebrated companies, their merely trivia. So, a bit of digging revealed that every company in the Top 20 is now hiring (Check out the job opportunities by clicking the links in the Top 20 list above)!
