If You Can’t Beat ‘Em, Let ‘Em Pay You

The big winners in this economic downturn are the oil and gas companies. They are earning record profits, still getting generous tax breaks and getting $100 bucks a barrel for their product. Granted, they are also generating plenty of boos and hisses. But, good, bad or ugly, they are fertile ground for career and job opportunities.
Despite their record profits and high profile, and the fact that 7.8 million of us are out of work, job-seekers are not beating down oil and gas company doors. So, some of them are coming to you. The Pennsylvania Oil & Gas Association, an association of oil and gas producers, will launch a TV ad campaign to attract job-seekers, especially younger ones, to the industry.
The 30-second ads will run during prime time from April 27 to June (Pennsylvania counties only). The campaign’s theme is “Come do what I do”. The ads will feature mostly blue-collar jobs including well tenders, drillers and service crew members.
Other oil and gas companies are participating in targeted job fairs, recruiting on college campuses and working with local employment development departments to find candidates.
Ultimately, we all want to shake our dependence on oil and gas, but that change won’t happen overnight and you might be the one to help accelerate the development of alternative energy sources–from the inside out.
