Just when you thought it was safe to get back in the candidate pool, someone invents something else to ferret out way more information than is necessary to decide if you’re the right fit for that “wow-I-think-I-could-pan-handle-and-make-more-than-this” job.
Fetch Technologies recently announced a new product called Fetch Footprint. The product is designed to access candidate data from public local, state and federal information sources and millions of social and professional network posts.
Fetch Footprint is being marketed as an intelligence tool for risk management, background checking, tax credit services, recruiting, applicant tracking, tenant screening, job fit assessments, human resources management and benefit services.
So, what does that mean to you?
Simple. Stop writing dirty, silly things on the walls of your friends’ Facebook pages. Stop posting half-naked photos of yourself on your trip to Greece on your MySpace pages.
Stop doing anything online (and off-line) that might not appeal to any potential employer.
Treat your social networking pages and posts as if they were official communications from your brand manager (that’s you).
Clean up any issues in your personal life that may end up the subject of public records.
Don’t lie or omit information on former employers, arrests (some cities post arrests in their newspapers), convictions, bad credit (financial institutions and casinos care about this), prison time, tax liens (may matter if you are applying for a job dealing with finances), your education or professional certifications (many organizations post lists of certified members).
