Full-Court Press on Part-Time Jobs

The April Jobs Report revealed a big spike in the number of persons employed in part-time jobs. A surprising 306,000 workers joined the part-time workforce in the month of April alone, bringing the grand total of all part-time workers (year-to-date) to 5.2 million. That’s 849,000 higher than in April 2007.

The increase is due to economic necessity–people are accepting part-time jobs because their hours are being cut back and/or they cannot find full-time jobs.

  5. You might actually earn more money (Some employers are willing to pay higher hourly rates to part-timers who aren’t usually eligible for benefits*)
