Wal-Mart’s shelf space is money in the bank! For many inventors, manufacturers and distributors getting their stuff on the shelves at Wal-Mart is the dream. Millionaires are made at Wally World, if only you can get your stuff on the shelves.
Good luck with that. Ask anyone who’s tried and they’ll tell you that it’s very difficult. Even if Wal-Mart’s buyers like your stuff, they’ll make you jump through hoops to meet their stringent pricing guidelines, merchant policies and production demands. Not many small operators can make the cut.
Lucky for you, the folks at Wal-Mart want to give you a free pass. Sort of. Wal-Mart has launched a new online classifieds website that offers you virtual shelf space for all your goodies. The new Walmart.com Classifieds website allows you to post ads for your new or used items and link to existing ads or websites–good for driving traffic to your blog or website, and hopefully, for selling your products or services.
I generally use Craigslist to sell my bits, but I have to say that Walmart.com is, at least for now, a good alternative due to it’s simple user interface (built by Oodle). You can easily add pictures and links to other sites without having to understand HTML. And, if that’s not enough, Walmart.com is absolutely void of the naked, out-of-shape losers looking for NSA (no strings attached) encounters (Sorry Craigslist, but I’m tired of the all-crotch all-the-time show).
Walmart.com Classifieds is new, so its success remains to be seen. But, if the success of Wal-Mart’s stores is any indicator, why not try hitching your wagon to a star.
