Math We Love: Still Adding Jobs

Unfortunately, I can’t tell you that the bad part is over, but I can tell you that there are still companies expanding, still hiring. Here are just a few.

Amazon.com - Amazon.com is looking to hire “several hundred” full-time employees at its Whitestown, Indiana fulfillment center opening this summer. Amazon is hiring to fill hourly positions in Picking, Packing and Receiving/Shipping, as well as management positions. Amazon will also hire as many as 1,700 temporary associates during peak season.

Monster.com - Monster.com is opening a customer service center in Florence, SC for which they expect to hire 350 new employees. Monster will begin recruiting “in the next couple of weeks” and will open a temporary facility in September.

Convergys - Convergys, which sells customer, information and human resources management services, will invest $4 million to open a call center in Hickory, NC. Convergys plans to hire 450.

Merck - Pharmaceutical giant Merck is expanding its North Carolina vaccine plant and adding up to 400 new jobs, 180 of them before the plant officially opens.

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market - The Tesco-owned retailer plans to hire 750 people over the next three months as part of its rapid expansion. The neighborhood stores will employ 25 employees each, many of whom will receive medical and dental benefits (Tesco pays 75% of the premium), a 401(k) with employer match, and quarterly bonuses of up to 10% of their pay. Hourly positions start at $10/hour; management positions pay more. Fresh & Easy operates 61 stores in California, Nevada and Arizona.

Arby’s Restaurants - Arby’s is hiring to fill positions in 35 new locations in California, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Dickey’s Barbecue - The fast-growing chain expects to open 115 restaurants in 21 states by the end of 2008, adding another 95 locations in 2009.
