Fast Facts: Unemployment Up, Economy Still Going Down

The number of newly laid off people filing claims for unemployment benefits is skyrocketing!  Last week, the Labor Department reported that the number of claims rose to a jolting 406,000.  Analysts blame the rise in claims on companies cutting their work forces in response to the slowing economy and the collapsed housing market.
