Fast Facts: New Unemployment Claims Hit 516,000

The number of newly laid-off workers has hit a 7-year high of 516,000 claims, indicating that employers are laying workers off at a faster clip. Claims are also getting larger indicating that people are taking longer to find new jobs.
There are now 3.9 million people currently receiving benefits, and 10.1 million people unemployed (6.2 million people are either ineligible for unemployment benefits or have exhausted their benefits).
