Careersthatdontsuck.com’s 2009 Predictions
Posted on | December 29, 2008 | No Comments
We’re ready to start reading the coffee grounds! It’s time for Careersthatdontsuck.com’s 2009 Predictions. Next year promises to be an exciting one filled with ups and, unfortunately, more downs. In 2009, President Obama will lead us in the most epic economic struggle of my lifetime and attempt amazing feats of morale-boosting. That’s not a prediction. But, here is our first prediction for 2009.
Way More Wal-Mart and wannabees!
If you’re not sick of Wal-Mart yet, you will be. The discounter is one of the recession’s biggest winners. The poorer we all feel, the faster we’ll all be converted into Wal-Mart shoppers. Wal-Mart will continue to capitalize by cramming more products and services into their jam-packed stores. Look for wider roll-outs of its pilot products/services–banking services, minute clinics, gas stations, Walmart.com services, etc.
As Wal-Mart grows, expect to see more small, me-too operations pop up in your neighborhood. Expect to see all manner of discount store and plenty of specialty operators converting to all-you-could-need, one-stop shops.
Career Opportunities:
Business Opportunities:
- Sell your products/services at Wal-Mart or other discounters
- Open your next franchise/proprietary business inside/next to a Wal-Mart
- Help inventors/other producers perfect their product and get it onto Wal-Mart, other store shelves
- Open your own discount store–discount fashions, groceries, banking, health screenings
- Buy a franchise–consignment or thrift stores are hot
