Best Job-Hunting Grounds

Posted on | August 6, 2009 | No Comments

It’s that time again, time to narrow the field to just those job markets where you might have a hope in heck of landing a job.  As always, the determination is based on (1) the total number of job ads currently posted online by employers in that city, and on (2) the number of competitors (number of unemployed people per available job).

If we use only criterion #1, these 10 cities are your best job-hunting grounds.

Cities With the Most Available Jobs

  1. New York, NY
  2. Washington, DC
  3. Los Angeles, CA
  4. Chicago, IL
  5. Boston, MA
  6. San Francisco, CA
  7. Dallas, TX
  8. Philadelphia, PA
  9. Baltimore, MD
  10. Atlanta, GA

If we use only criterion #2, these are your best job-hunting grounds.

Cities With the Fewest Competitors Per Job

  1. Washington, DC
  2. Salt Lake City, UT
  3. Baltimore, MD
  4. Oklahoma City, OK
  5. Honolulu, HI
  6. Austin, TX
  7. San Antonio, TX
  8. Boston, MA
  9. Hartford, CT
  10. New Orleans, LA

Taken together, criteria #1 and #2, narrows the field, er, grounds, to just 3.
