Here’s to Your Extraordinary Career and Life, Mr. Kennedy

I’m not one for sap when it comes to public figures, but I must admit that the passing of the flawed, but noble Senator Edward Moore “Ted” Kennedy saddens me. I’m not sure if it’s just that I’m so used to seeing his face and hearing his voice in Democratic politics, or if I’m really mourning the end of a dynasty. Sure, I know that Caroline and others live on, but the Kennedy brothers–the long line of public servants who despite their privilege fought for the rights of those well outside of their socio-economic circle–has ended.
Senator Kennedy gave us nearly 50 years of service (Nov. 7, 1962-August 25, 2009), championing civil rights, education, health care, immigration and more. His was a career of ups and downs, but of unwavering passion for people and mission.
I will miss him.
