Retail Therapy: Shopping is Good for the Job Market

Posted on | March 13, 2010 | No Comments

The retail sector is pepping up with a 3% increase in overall sales, and some sectors up as much as 15% (luxury retail).  This growth in retail revenue is due to a bump in consumer confidence.  Shoppers are finally beginning to tear themselves away from the discount racks and even to splurge on a few things.  Retailers are also unclenching their inventory controls and stocking their stores with stuff we apparently want to buy.  And that’s good news for all.  The retailers get their improved margins, and we get a surprise clutch of new jobs.
