March was a good month for the job market. Employers in most industries either added jobs or held steady, keeping the unemployment rate below 10% (at 9.7%).
JOB GROWTH BY INDUSTRY
- Federal government +48,000
- Temporary help services +40,000
- Health care +27,000 (+16,000 in ambulatory care, +9,000 in nursing and residential care facilities)
- Leisure and hospitality +22,000
- Manufacturing +17,000
- Construction +15,000
- Retail +15,000
- Mining +8,000
