New Book Makes Starting a Business a Movable Feat

San Francisco, CA—July 23, 2009—It’s hard to ignore the growing mobile trend—mobile restaurants, mobile pet groomers, mobile (fill in the blank). The trend is a response to reduced access to credit and lower consumer spending. Would-be entrepreneurs and existing business owners are seeking new ways to lower their startup and operating costs and increase their sales.

Accomplishing this now requires a new interpretation of the basic business principle, “location, location, location”. Sure, there are plenty of office or retail spaces available, but because the office parks, shopping centers and suburbs that once attracted and corralled large numbers of potential consumers are virtual ghost towns, business owners are eschewing stationary locations in favor of mobile headquarters.

YOU + TRUCK, the new book by Careersthatdontsuck.com Editor Deshannee’ Johnice, is a bootstrapper’s guide to starting a business with a good idea and a truck. The book handily covers everything entrepreneurs need to plan, start, and grow mobile enterprises.

Deshannee’, a serial entrepreneur and author of the Everybody Else’s Guide series, wrote YOU + TRUCK to help newly-unemployed would-be entrepreneurs start low-cost, high-return businesses with little or no help from banks, venture capitalists or other pre-recession funding sources.

“Now is a great time to start a business, if you can afford it,” says Deshannee’ Johnice. “The big guys are vulnerable to competition and are scraping for credit and cash just like small business owners. There’s no better time for scrappy, creative entrepreneurs to get a foothold in a lucrative industry, and, if you can do it with just a good idea and a truck, all the better.”

At a time when we’re all trying to figure out what’s next, Schroeder’s The Snowball provides a deep dive into Buffett’s childhood, his motivations and his investment strategy. Buffet describes his investment strategy as follows: Estimate the investment’s value, handicap its risks, keep a margin of safety, and then let compounding do the real work.

Simple. Right?

Buffet hasn’t veered from this strategy since the 1960′s. The wisdom is that is abudantly evident. That’s why I’m spending my evenings reading Schroeder’s 960-page tome. Join me.

Alice Schroeder’s new book on Warren Buffett, The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life, arrives just in time to give us hope for our financial future. Buffett’s sublimely simple approach to investing has made him the richest man in the world (#1 on Fortune’s Richest People with $63 billion), and a major player in the rescue of big players in the financial markets (Buffett invested $3 billion in General Electric and $5 billion in Goldman Sachs).
Join me.
If you’re not ready for such a long read, get Warren Buffett: The Making of an American Capitalist.
